Coynet hardware has been designed to facilitate the interfacing of a coin mechanism or debit card system to operate a PC. The hardware works totally transparent to the user, and works in harmony with the Coynet Control Software, to ensure that the hardware and software of the PC are very secure. Coynet Control software runs under the Windows 95 (OEM 1) operating system. Like most Windows 95 programs Coynet Control Software uses a graphical interface to allow the customer to use the applications. The ease of the system is what we believe is one of the major selling points. Insert a coin, click on the relevant icon to start the application and the program starts automatically. Up to 25 programs can be installed on the system for the user to choose from, with the ability to have multiple pricing tariffs. Hardware The Hardware board has been designed to Facilitate the interfacing of a Coin Mechanism or debit card system to operate a PC. The hardware works totally transparent to the user and works in harmony with the Coynet Control Software. All pricing levels for On-line access (all telephone dependent applications), Off-line access (word processing etc.) Price of printed pages are all programmed via the hardware board, (shown left) so the security risk from someone breaking into the PC program and manipulating them is removed. Pricing levels can be programmed in £0.05 intervals from £0.05 per hour up to £100 per hour, so you have total flexibility over the system. Debit Card System Fully Integrated Coynet Unit Security We believe that giving the public unrestricted access to a PC is fraught with problems, either through malicious or mischievous behaviour, your system files can be deleted, modified, virus infected or worse still re formatted. "We believe that giving the public unrestricted access to a PC is fraught with problems..." We have designed a software approach that gives the user a graphical interface to the programs that you wish to give them access to, and shut out all keyboard commands and menus that could cause problems. Coybrowser Coynet has designed their own browser, again to eliminate security problems. Based on Microsoft Explorer, we have disabled certain features that allow a user access to the hard drive. This is a major problem with Netscape and Microsoft Explorer browsers; the user can rename or even delete system files. Select Programs & Applications Title Screen Email Provided with each system is a copy of Coynet Email. Our software allows a user to create their own personal email account with the @coynet.com suffix, with thier own password. "Our software allows a user to create their own personal email account ..." They can then use this email account at any Coynet machine or even at their own PC at home. Likewise they can check their own personal email account e.g. jsmith@dial.pipex.com on a Coynet machine. This facility allows the user to send and receive email along with attachments. Which can be printed or saved to floppy disc. Paid Printing Support Coynet Control Software and Hardware allow the system to charge for printing at source. When the user selects the print button the system checks the number of pages to be printed, checks the remaining credit left for the user, then confirms with the user that he wishes to debit his credit then prints. No need for Library staff to collect money, or wasted paper being printed and not paid for. Flexibility The Coynet Control software allows the system to operate any Windows 95 program up to a maximum of 25 applications. So the system is not just tied to being an internet access terminal but could be used for Word processing, Spreadsheet, Desktop Publishing and so on. Software Setup Coynet Control software allows the library to setup new applications by using the Application wizard setup; this prompts the user through the process and is very user friendly. Coynet Package The System can be supplied either as a complete system with Desk, Computer, Coynet Control and Email Software and Coin mechanism; everything ready to go. The other option is the complete system without a PC, i.e. if a library already has PC's and do not wish to buy more. The libraries PC can be incorporated into our system.
